Choosing the Right Dog Bowl, Bed, and Collar in Bahrain

Labrador Retriever Dog Breed

Walk into any Bahrain pet shop and you face a wall of choices for things that all do the same job: hold food, hold the dog, hold the dog up. Most of the differences do not matter. A few really do. Here is what to actually look at.

Dog Bowls: Three Things That Matter

Material

  • Stainless steel: The right answer for almost every dog. Easy to clean, durable, no bacterial harbour.
  • Ceramic: Heavier (won’t slide), elegant, but breaks. Watch for lead in cheap imports.
  • Plastic: Cheap, but scratches harbour bacteria, can trigger chin acne in some dogs. Skip.

Size

Chicken & Veg Meal (Cooked)

This is a balanced meal for dogs.  Directions: Freeze until ready to use. Thaw & serve. Once opened, use within 2 days. Keep refrigerated & separate from other foods. This product is not for human consumption.

Match the bowl to the dog. A great dane eating from a Pomeranian bowl is silly. More importantly, deep bowls are problematic for brachycephalic breeds (Frenchies, Pugs, Shih Tzus). Shallow, wide bowls let them eat without nose-pressing.

Stability

Excited or large dogs push light bowls around. Heavy ceramic or rubber-bottomed steel solves it. Or use a bowl stand. Raised bowls are kinder on senior dog necks but should not be too high.

Slow Feeders

If your dog inhales food in 30 seconds, a slow feeder bowl is worth it. Reduces choking risk, helps digestion, and is genuinely entertaining for the dog. Fresh meals like our Chicken and Veg work beautifully in slow feeders.

Beds: The Sleep Math

Chicken Broth

High in collagen for joint support. Provides hydration. Promotes gut health. Source of vitamins, minerals & nutrients. Low-calorie food. Directions: serve four to five tablespoons for every 10 kg.

Dogs sleep 12 to 16 hours a day. They will spend half their life on whatever you provide. Cheap matters less than supportive.

  • Orthopaedic memory foam for any dog over 5 years old, or any breed prone to joint issues.
  • Bolster beds for dogs who like to lean. Most do.
  • Cooling beds (gel or elevated mesh) for Bahrain summers.
  • Washable covers: Non-negotiable. They will get dirty.

Bed Placement

  • One main bed in the living area so they can be with the family.
  • A second bed in the bedroom if they sleep there.
  • Avoid drafty AC vents directly on them.
  • Sunny spots are loved but dangerous in summer. Provide alternatives.

Collars: Function Over Fashion

  • Flat buckle or martingale for everyday wear.
  • Material: Nylon is durable. Leather is classic but cracks in sun. Biothane (waterproof, easy clean) is ideal for Bahrain.
  • Width: Match to dog size. Narrow for small breeds, wider for large.
  • ID tag mandatory: Phone number engraved. Microchip is internal backup, tag is external.

Harnesses: Often Better Than Collars

Mix Treat Jar

Mix Treat Jar for Dogs with all Bubbles & Miche’s favourites! To be used as complementary treats. Not fit for human consumption. Store at room temperature away from direct sunlight in a dry place.

For most dogs, a harness is kinder on the neck and gives you better control. Especially essential for: brachycephalic breeds (Frenchies, Pugs), small breeds (collapse trachea risk), pullers, dogs with neck or spine issues.

Leashes

  • Standard 1.2 to 1.8 metre leash for walks.
  • Long line (5 to 10 metres) for recall training in open areas.
  • Skip retractable leashes for everyday walks. They teach pulling and the cord can cause serious injuries.
  • Reflective material for evening walks.

Tags and IDs

  • Engraved metal tag: Phone number, dog’s name.
  • QR code tag: Modern addition. Stranger scans, gets your contact info.
  • Always alongside microchip.

Toys: The Investment Tier

Barkies

Yummy Apple & Peanut-Butter biscuits.  Oven-baked * High-Fibre * Essential Nutrients. Human-grade ingredients. Perfect as Snacks. Made With Love.

  • Stuffable toys (Kong, West Paw): Use with peanut butter or chicken broth frozen inside. Hours of engagement.
  • Puzzle feeders: Excellent mental exercise.
  • Plush toys: Only for non-destructive chewers.
  • Rope toys: Watch for swallowed strands.
  • Tennis balls: Fine for fetch, avoid letting them chew the felt.

Travel Essentials

  • Foldable water bowl.
  • Travel crate or seat belt harness.
  • Cooling mat for summer trips.
  • First aid kit (see our pet first aid guide).

Climate-Specific For Bahrain

  • Paw wax for any summer pavement exposure.
  • Cooling vest for daytime out-and-about (Frenchies, Pugs, senior dogs).
  • Stainless steel bowls handle the heat best.
  • Wash beds and blankets frequently in dusty months.

The Bottom Line

Spend on what touches the dog every day (bowls, bed, collar, leash). Cheap out elsewhere if you must. Pair the right gear with fresh food from Bubbles and Miche and you have the basics of a happy dog locked down.

Stainless bowl. Orthopaedic bed. Biothane collar. Real food in the bowl.
